Tourism Minister of Cambodia Sok Sokenmet with ASEAN Tourism Ministers and leaders of leading international tourism organizations to discuss the strengthening of tourism cooperation and the potential for jointly setting strategic directions for tourism development in Cambodia and within sub-regional and regional frameworks.
According to the Press Release of outcomes of the bilateral meeting between Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism and the Ministers of Tourism of ASEAN Member States and Leaders of International Organizations during the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 in Lao PDR.
In the meeting with Ms. Liz Ortiguera, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), expressed her support for the Ministry of Tourism’s strategic initiative “BUILD + 3Ds”, as the objectives of WTTC are aligned with this initiative.
“As collective data on tourism trends around the world is available at the WTTC, Sok Soken and Liz Ortiguera agreed to strengthen cooperation in data and information sharing on regional and global tourism trends towards sustainable tourism and socio-economic development.” Press conference stated.
Sok Soken also met with Mr. Brian McFeeters, senior vice president and Regional Director of United States-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC)discussed strengthening and promoting public- private partnership cooperation for the development of tourism in Cambodia and ASEAN.
Through this meeting, many large companies and corporations under the US- ABC expressed interest in tourism potential and investment opportunities in Cambodia’s tourism services sector, especially in regards to providing US brand product supply and other international standard product supply to Cambodia in accordance with the demand for Cambodia’s growing tourists’ arrivals.
In this regard, both leaders agreed to work together to promote the diversification of tourism products and the digital transformation of tourism services in Cambodia in line with the evolving needs and trends of tourism.
Minister of Tourism also met with Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary- General of ASEAN, exchanged views on the strategic direction of ASEAN tourism development. In this regard, Kao Kim Hournrequested minister to share the vision and strategic initiative of the Ministry of Tourism in developing the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan post-2025.
Sok Soken and Kao Kim Hournalso agreed to strengthen and promote Intra-ASEAN Tourism and information sharing on tourism.
At the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 in Lao PDR, Sok Soken also met with the Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC), Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand and the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia.
