Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF):
The Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF) is an annual event dedicated to the tourism industry in the Greater Mekong Sub-region. The event provides a cooperative platform for stakeholders in the tourism industry to discuss the development, marketing, and promotion of travel to, from, and within the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). It presents an inclusive, interactive, and results-oriented opportunity to encourage public and private sector participation in representing the GMS as a single destination.
Initiated by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in 1996, the MTF has evolved significantly. Revived in 2010 by the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), the forum continues to play a crucial role in shaping regional tourism. Amid today’s ever-changing tourism landscape, the MTF remains dedicated to promoting the GMS as a single tourist destination, providing a platform for addressing sub-regional tourism issues, and expanding marketing networks. By pooling resources, the forum aims to foster synergies that drive the sustainable growth and promotion of the region’s tourism sector.
Last year, MTF2025 was hosted in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang, Laos, from June 24–27. The forum gathered tourism leaders and stakeholders from across the GMS under the theme “United Journey – Stronger Together,” emphasising collaboration and the collective implementation of the GMS Tourism Strategy 2030 for inclusive and sustainable growth.

A technical workshop on practical tools for evidence-based destination marketing in the GMS will precede the forum, aimed at enhancing demand insights, campaign design, and marketing intelligence among GMS tourism authorities and partners.
