The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that Lonely Planet has named Phuket among the world’s 25 Best Destinations for 2026, spotlighting the island’s distinctive coastal lifestyle, dynamic urban atmosphere, and rich cultural identity. The Best in Travel 2026 list and Phuket, Thailand, feature were published on 22 October 2025, reinforcing Phuket’s position as one of the world’s most inspiring island destinations.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said “This honour from Lonely Planet is a meaningful testament to Phuket’s enduring appeal and Thailand’s commitment to quality, responsible tourism. It reflects how creativity, community, and culture continue to define the Thai travel experience and inspire visitors from around the world.”

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026 highlights Phuket’s evolution as a destination that seamlessly blends beachside relaxation with creativity and local charm. The publication also introduces a new Phuket travel itinerary, curating experiences that showcase the island’s beaches, gastronomy, art, and design — inviting travellers to rediscover Phuket through fresh and authentic perspectives.

Founded in 1970, Lonely Planet is one of the world’s most trusted travel media brands, with more than 150 million guidebooks sold globally and an extensive digital reach. Its annual Best in Travel list continues to shape global travel inspiration, and this year’s feature on Phuket has attracted widespread attention across international media.

Among the global outlets amplifying the recognition, CNN highlighted Phuket in its article “25 must-visit places and must-do experiences named for 2026”, further strengthening Thailand’s visibility and reputation as a leading world-class destination.

This recognition from Lonely Planet adds to Thailand’s growing list of international honours, including the recent Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 in both the US and UK editions. It reaffirms the kingdom’s global appeal and the strength of its tourism offerings — from cultural heritage and sustainability to world-class hospitality.
