“How can we calculate the carrying capacity of tourism in a protected area?” There are many visitation frameworks in the public domain that are more straightforward and practical to apply, and can guide visitor management towards ‘desired conditions’. This briefing paper is an attempt to share some of the frameworks out there – with examples of where they’ve been applied in practice, challenges and critiques, and considerations for their use.
