The Sanyue Market in Dali Ancient Town was a bustling place for business for one week every year, starting from the third full moon of the lunar year. Nowadays, the Third Moon Fair has expanded beyond bustling markets to include equestrian shows and the delectable Yunnan braised chicken. This is a particularly auspicious holiday for the Bai ethnic group, who gather at the Chongsheng Temple in Dali to pay homage to Avalokitesvara, who rescued their people from a monster in the legendary past.
