Phowintaung Pagoda Festival, Myanmar

This festival is held amidst a bustling market in the compound of an ancient temple. People go to Monywa, Sagaing in November to celebrate this festival. The pagoda festival, along with all other similar festivals in Myanmar are celebrated by locals as an ancient tradition that has been going on for centuries. It is also common to find woven products, thanaka and sandalwood sold in the market. The atmosphere surrounding the temple during the festival is exciting and fun as tourists get to witness performances and interesting interactions of the locals. People would greet their families and friends during the festival and participate in dances and songs together.
