Pchum Ben, Cambodia
October 1, 2024 - October 3, 2024

Pchum Ben (“Ancestor’s Day”) is a 15-day religious festival where the Khmer pay respects to their deceased relatives of up to seven generations. During the celebration, people bring food to the temple: both to feed the monks and the “hungry ghosts” of their late ancestors, relatives and friends. Khmer tradition dictates that families visit seven pagodas within seven days, as they believe wandering spirits will look in seven different pagodas for their offerings. The celebrations at the end of Pchum Ben coincide with the end of Buddhist Lent, Vassa. (Tourism Cambodia)
