Boun Suang Heua, Lao PDR

On the occasion of Boun Hor Khao Padap Din (an annual festival held to feed spirits) during Buddhist Lent, boat racing activities will be held along the Khan River in Luang Prabang. Traditional racing boats are carved from a single tree trunk, and seats up to 50 rowers. Prior to the race, the boats are cleaned and given offerings to ensure victory. Alongside the races, street fairs, food stalls and stage performances take place on the river banks—creating a party atmosphere that perfectly suits the festive occasion. (Laotian Times)
