The launching ceremony took place in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, on June 7 under the presidency of Neth Pheaktra, Cambodia’s Minister of Information, and Zheng Yan, Member of the Standing Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Yunnan Provincial Committee.

Addressing the function, Neth Pheaktra congratulated the launch of such a significant program within the year of the people-to-people exchange between Cambodia and China initiated by the two governments to promote more active and vibrant cooperation in tourism, trade, and investment.

The program will provide a good opportunity for all of us to understand the beauty of the world heritage sites in Cambodia’s Angkor historical region and China’s Yunnan province, as well as the country’s long-lasting history and attractive culture.

He added that it aims to strengthen the exchange of culture, tourism, and people-to-people collaboration and further promote advanced relations between Cambodia and China in the new age.

According to Neth Pheaktra, Cambodia is one of the oldest civilisations in Southeast Asia and rich in cultural heritage and tradition. The Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard to protect and conserve the Angkor resort and turn this archaeological site into a world-famous tourist destination to attract more visitors from all around the world.

Neth Pheaktra was also committed to promoting Cambodia-China collaboration worldwide on behalf of Cambodia’s media institution.

Ms Yeng Yan spoke highly of intimate Cambodia-China relations as a solid friend and was positive that the “Trip in Yunnan to Visit Angkor” programme will further boost the tourism sector between the two nations.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, in 2023, Cambodia welcomed 5.45 million foreign tourists, including 550,000 Chinese tourists.

During the first three months of 2024, 1.58 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia, including 190,000 Chinese tourists.
