Xiamen Airlines to fly to Sihanoukville

Xiamen Airlines will add the Cambodian coastal city of Sihanoukville to its list of international destinations with a daily service due to begin later this month.

The maiden flight for the airlines’ route connecting Xiamen, in China’s southeastern Fujian province, and Sihanoukville will take off on Sept 23, the company said in its website.

The airline will use a Boeing 737-800 for the route.

In January last year, Xiamen Airlines began flying to Phnom Penh four times per week.

Taing Socheat Krisna, director of Preah Sihanouk province’s tourism department, noted a recent increase in the province’s air traffic.

“The number of tourists, particularly from China, and businessmen travelling to Preah Sihanouk is on the rise and is encouraging the establishment of more and more flights to the province,” Mr Socheat Krisna said.

There are now 15 airlines operating at Sihanouk International Airport – four of them are local companies and the rest are from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.
