Tourist chiefs say that the visit to Angkor Wat by Hollywood star Angelina Jolie is a positive sign for  Cambodia, especially Angkor.

Long Kosal, Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of APSARA Authority, said that the visit of Miss Jolie shows the world that Cambodia is a safe and secure tourist destination.

Mr Long stated: ‘The visit to Angkor Resort by Angelina Jolie is a good positive sign for Cambodia, and we prove at this point is that Angkor Cambodia is a safe tourist destination, a destination that does not face the challenges of COVID’’

Miss Jolie, who is also a Cambodian citizen, plans to train women in the skill of beekeeping in Battambang province’s Samlot district where she has a home.

Women for Bees is a state-of-the-art female beekeeping entrepreneurship programme launched by UNESCO and luxury perfume brand Guerlain, according to UNESCO’s website.

“When women gain skills and knowledge, their instinct is to help raise others. I’m excited to meet the women taking part in this programme from all over the world. I look forward to getting to know them and learning about their culture and environment and the role bees play in that. I hope the training will strengthen their independence, their livelihoods and their communities,” Jolie is quoted as saying on the website.
