The MTCO executive director attended and contributed to Global Experts Think Tank in Malta

The Executive Director of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office was invited to contribute to the Global Experts Think Tank to discuss Climate Change in Tourism. #climatefriendlytravel is one of the most important issues facing the world, and tourism can be part of the solution instead of being a problem, if we all take action now. Thank you for Professor Geoff Lipman of the The SUNx Program for leading the initiative and Visit Malta for being the perfect host. The top global experts from all over the world gathered in Malta for one week, locked away in a room, to debate issues and share knowledge. One of the key takeaways (introduced by Professor Susanne Becken), beyond discussing topics from carbon offsets to sustainable airplane fuel alternatives, was the agreement that organizations need to earn a social license to operate by protecting the planet instead of exploiting the world’s resources and environment. MTCO will work with SunX to raise the issue in the member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion. Stay tuned for more information soon.
