The 50th GMS TWG Meeting was convened on Oct 11 in Quang Nam, Viet Nam

The 50th Meeting of the GMS Tourism Working Group (TWG-50), the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) Board Meeting and the Asian Development Bank’s Tourism Infrastructure for Tourism (ADB TIIG) Project Meeting were held on October 10-11, 2022 in Quang Nam, Viet Nam. The meetings were co-organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), and attended by representatives of the National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) of the six GMS countries (Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam), MTCO, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ASEAN-Japan Center.

This is the first in-person GMS TWG & MTCO Board Meeting since the pandemic hit over two years ago. Dr Ha Sieu, Vice Chairman of VNAT, on behalf of Chair of GMS TWG and MTCO Board, kindly presented a large beautiful bouquet of flowers to our Executive Director, Ms Dee Suvimol, as it’s her first time attending the GMS TWG and Board Meeting under her current capacity at MTCO.

The Meeting discussed on the GMS Member Countries’ tourism status, possible joint collaboration projects, the progress of the ADB TIIG Projects and future work plan including the public-private partnership to drive GMS tourism development. Besides, the Meeting acknowledged and appreciated the Tourism Forecast presentation done by PATA Special Advisor, Mr John Koldowski.
