Compared to last year, the country has reported an impressive number of over 1 million international tourists to have visited Laos between January to April.

The Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism published its most recent figures online on Friday, showing that 1,114,950 foreign visitors made a trip to Laos in the first four months of the year.

Laos saw the most visitors from Thailand at 430,979, followed by Vietnam at 224,461, 223,350 Chinese visitors came to Laos after China reopened its borders in early 2023, and 57,189 South Korean tourists made a trip to the country as well.

With a total of 78,258 European tourists arrivals, the country welcomed 15,546 French travelers, 15,150 tourists from Russia, and 13,991 from the United Kingdom, while 22,713 tourists from the United States of America visited Laos, the most for any country in the Americas.

April alone saw well over 200,000 tourists after the first quarter figures of more than 800,000 international visitors traveling to Laos were revealed earlier this month.

In the first four months alone, the country has come close to completing its annual goal of attracting 1.4 million international tourists, which was announced earlier this year.

The Lao government has approved the idea of promoting 2023-2024 as Lao Tourism Year, at the monthly cabinet meeting in May, to highlight the country’s beautiful scenery, friendly people, and rich culture.
