The activities were held to strengthen relations between the two countries and attract tourists during the upcoming Wat Phou festival in February.

Deputy Governor of Champassak province, Mr. Somboun Heuangvongsa, said during the event that since rules were relaxed after the pandemic in 2022, the province welcomed 191,908 tourists.

At the event last Sunday, the two countries organized numerous activities, including caravan parades, marathons, a cycling competition, football for senior citizens, cultural performances, and an art exhibition featuring Lao and Thai artists.

Champasack Province is home to 244 natural, cultural, and historical tourist attractions, including Vat Phou, the second UNESCO World Heritage site in Laos, according to Mr. Somboun.

CNN has recently ranked Champasack’s Pakse district as one of the most underrated places to visit in Asia this year, noting that the province deserves a lot of international attention.

Lao Airlines also added an extra flight on the Vientiane-Pakse route last week that will operate every Sunday morning to welcome more tourists to the southern region.
