Tet (Lunar New Year), Viet Nam

During Viet Nam’s Lunar New Year (Tết Nguyên Đán) celebration, families across the country reunite and honour their ancestors, while praying for luck, prosperity and health in the new year. Locals visit friends and family, and give envelopes of cash to young children. Food is a major part of the festival: after all, the traditional Tet greeting translates to “Eat Tet”! Tet special foods include candied fruit, braised pork with eggs, and sticky rice cakes called bánh chưng. The public holiday may only run for one week, but in reality, Tết celebrations last much longer! (Vietnam Tourism Ministry)
