Bon Om Touk (Water Festival), Cambodia

Held annually in Phnom Penh and around the country, Bon Om Touk is celebrated over three days to ask for divine blessings. Historically, the festival celebrated the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the fishing season and the bountiful harvest that was hoped to come with it. The celebrations are at their most intense along Sisowath Quay along the west bank of the Tonle Sap river; a regatta of colorfully-painted boats graces the waters, while celebrations like the Moon salutation (Sampeas Preah Khe) and offering of the rice snack “Ambok” to the moon (Ork Ambok) take place onshore.
