Bay Nui Ox Race, Viet Nam
October 12, 2024 - October 27, 2024
The Khmer communities in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta celebrate the Bay Nui Ox Race as part of their Sene Dolta (Pchum Ben) celebrations. The race is held between Tinh Bien and Tri Ton districts, taking place from the 29th day of the eighth month to the first day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. The Khmer believe that winning oxen bring good luck and a fruitful harvest; thus, these animals are neither sold or slaughtered, but cared for as prized assets. During the festival, locals also pay tribute to their ancestors and take part in traditional songs and dances. (Vietnam Tourism Ministry)
