Cambodia has been the largest beneficiary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund Projects for three consecutive years, including this year, China’s Ambassador to the Kingdom Wang Wentian said yesterday.

He said this during a signing ceremony at the ministry with Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on an agreement for cooperation projects worth $7.2 million under the MLC fund for this year.

Mr Wang said Cambodia has harvested the largest number of MLC Special Fund totaling 55, including this year’s projects, with a total sum of over $20 million.

“It fully reflects the active engagement of Cambodia in the MLC and demonstrates that the China-Cambodia cooperation within the MLC is highly fruitful. We hope the projects will help improve Cambodian people’s livelihoods and speed up Cambodia’s development in economy, society and other areas,” he said.

“The application of 2021 project is now under way. We expect an early confirmation of a new round of quality projects, which will provide more support for economic and social development of the region after the COVID-19 pandemic. China would like to work with Cambodia as well as other Lancang-Mekong River countries to implement the MLC Special Fund Projects,” Mr Wang added.

Mr Sokhonn said that in February last year, Cambodia implemented the second batch of projects supported by the MLC Special Fund 2018.
