Bridging the Mekong: Bueng Kan – Bolikhamxay Cross-Border Bus Service Launched

Bueng Kan Bus Terminal has officially launched an international bus service on the Bueng Kan Province–Borikhamxay Province route in the Lao PDR, starting from 8 January 2026.

The service aims to facilitate cross-border travel and enhance transport connectivity between the two neighboring countries. It is jointly operated by Thailand’s Transport co., Ltd. (BorKorSor) and SPS Company of the Lao PDR, with a flat fare of 100 baht per passenger.

Regarding the timetable, buses depart from Bueng Kan Provincial Bus Terminal at 
8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, buses from the Lao side depart from Pakxan Bus Terminal in Bolikhamxay Province at the same times.

In addition, a cross-border shuttle bus service is available at the Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, with two shuttle buses in operation. The fare is 20 baht per passenger, and the service runs daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On 7 January 2026, Transport co., Ltd. conducted a trial run of one Thai-operated international bus on the Bueng Kan–Borikhamxay route to accommodate public travel demand. A total of 585 passengers used the service during the trial period. Preparations are currently underway to add one more Thai-operated bus, which is expected to be ready by the end of January 2026.
