Botahtaung Pagoda to host 9,000 oil lamps festival on Thadingyut Full Moon

According to U Thein Su, a member of the board of trustees of the Botahtaung Pagoda, a 9,000 oil lamps ceremony will be held at the pagoda in Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region, on the night of the Thadingyut full moon.

At 5:30 am on the morning of 17 October, the full moon day of Thadingyut, Buddha statues at the pagoda will be offered flowers, water, and light. From 7 am, there will be a recitation of the Abhidhamma on the NanU prayer hall to mark the Abhidhamma Day.

“Meals will be offered at dawn, and from 5:30 pm, oil lamps will be lit in the pagoda’s square,” U Thein Su explained. Beginning on the evening of 17 October, a total of 9,000 oil lights will be lit in the extended square of the Botahtaung Pagoda to celebrate the Thadingyut Full Moon.
