GIZ has been working in Laos since 1993 and currently has around 170 national personnel and 70 international experts in the country, including seconded employees, development workers and CIM integrated experts. It is implementing a large number of projects in two priority areas.
Around two thirds of the Lao people live in rural regions. GIZ’s approach combines land management and integrated local development planning with climate change mitigation, promotion of environmental awareness, and sustainable resource management.
Sustainable economic development
In view of Laos’ rapid economic growth, GIZ focuses primarily on vocational training, market integration and microfinance.
GIZ is also involved in regional projects, such as a programme of cooperation with the Mekong River Commission and the Fit for School programme.
